Tai O - The "Venice of Hong Kong"

Lantau Island
Tung Chung - Tai O
6th December
3 Hours

Comments: Once we found the start this was a nice undulating coastal walk ending in Tai O,  Also known as the "Venice of Hong Kong"

The Route

  The start is in farmland

Easy to follow paths

Along the way there are the remains of small villages

This is the building of the bridge between Hong Kong and Macau, due to be completed in 2016

 Taking a break
 Onward to Tai O

 The outskirts of Tia O
Tai O is home to the Tanka people, a community of fisher folk who’ve built their houses on stilts above the tidal flats of Lantau Island for generations

Watch out for the low hanging poles

These unusual structures are interconnected, forming a tightly-knit community that literally lives on the water

Some of the houses are in better condition than others

A local B&B owner asks what I am doing

The local businesses all seemed very happy that we were going to add their village to street view

I became a bit of a walking tourist attraction
